Oh Baby!

This is the first is a series I’m going to call Oh Baby! for all the baby knitting I’ve been doing of late.  It seems like I’ve got a friend having a baby every month for the next 5 months or so, which means many mini knits.

The first is for a little girl due in July.  As much as I think I want to fight gender specific colors when picking out baby gifts, this yarn was just too good to ignore.  It’s been in my stash for a bit, and seemed like the perfect colorway for a baby girl born in the heat of summer.

Pattern: Baby Stuff, free Ravelry download

Yarn: Shibui Knits sock yarn in color 4201, approximately 160 yards

Needles: US size 2 double points

Mods: Made an i-cord topper with the last 4 stitches.  Because babies need funny things sticking up off the tops of their hats.

This is a quick and fun set to make.  The mitts were especially fast, and I hope they come in handy (hehe) for the little one.  The whole thing took about 1/2 a skein, so a great use of leftover bits of sock yarn.

So, one baby gift down, 3 or 4 more to go.  And then there’s this:

My Peaceful baby is due on New Year’s Day.  I feel like one lucky knitter to be having a winter baby!  Bring on the wee hats, sweaters, and booties!  Any suggestions for great gender-neutral knitting patterns?

  1. (SQUEAL!!!!!!!!)

I am sooo very happy for you and Sweetie.

Princess Paige was the first baby born at Yale-New Haven on January 1, 2003. I have to say that a New Year’s Baby is the coolest thing. I cannot wait to get knitting on some baby goodies for you.

  2. Congratulations to you and your Sweetie! How very exciting! My boys are winter babies…January 11 and December 19. I loved being pregnant during the winter. Cozy sweaters, lounge pants. I think I would die if I was pregnant in the summer, too hot. Hope you are feeling well, enjoy every moment right now because at weeks 35-40 you get very uncomfortable. Any plans to find out the gender down the road?

  3. Oh yeah, you wanted suggestions. Heh. My favorite pattern by far is the Easy Baby Cardigan by Knitting Pure & Simple. It is a raglan that can be made with a hood or a collar and knits up lickety split. I’ve done quite a few.

  4. i could not be happier for you and sweetie. I am so happy for you!!!!!!!! you are going to make w wonderful mom.

  5. I’ve been waiting for this post. Congratulations to you and Sweetie once again! Now all I need to do is work out what to knit for your little one.

  6. Hey I can’t wait for our children to play together!!Jackson sure misses u!
    Much Love Baby

  7. Congratulations! And happy knitting! Having knitted up a storm for my own baby though (now seven weeks old) – don’t be surprised at how fast they grow out of things! Literally in three weeks they can go from swimming-around-in-it it’s so big to cutting-off-circulation tight. She got to wear the Debbie Bliss First Coat all of one time. So now I knit for at least six-months-big!

  8. Congrats gorgeous! Ever since “Sweetie” told me the news, I was wondering when it would appear on here. I don’t have to tell you that I am over the moon with excitement for you both! Much love!

  9. oh congratulations. Any baby is wonderful, but a winter baby to a knitter is the universe smiling on you a little more brightly.
