The Great Green Giveaway

Happy Forest colorway, worsted weight, 250 yards

Thank you for all the positive feedback on the Climbing Vines Pullover!  I think overall it was a successful knit, due in large part to the gorgeous yarn it was knit in.  To me, the vibrant, verdant greens in the Happy Forest colorway speak of spring and all the new growth that it brings.  Those tones and thoughts really kept me knitting through the dark winter days and challenging moments of the project!

Good news– I have an entire luscious skein of Dream in Color Classy leftover. In the interest of sharing the green goodness and having a little interactive fun, I propose we have a giveaway. The winner shall receive this yarn, plus a couple of surprise goodies.

How to win? Simple: just leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite green thing(s).  It could be a place, a yarn, food, color, scent, anything! Leave your comment by midnight PST on Friday March 4th, and I will randomly choose a winner over the weekend.

  1. My favorite green things include my Snapdragon Tam, guacamole, the lush expanse of Boston Common in the summertime, and fresh basil on pasta or pizza.

  2. I fell in love with the emerald in my mother’s wedding when I was just a young girl, and my love of all things green has only increased since then…. I love that the English countryside where I now live is described by William Blake as this “green and pleasant land.”

I love your sweater, Sonja, and think it looks beautiful on you!

  3. Kermit the frog.

I’m not sure why. I just read your question and that answer popped straight into my mind.

maybe I’m thinking of ‘It’s not easy being green…’

  4. Job well done, Sonia! Your persistence has paid off- it’s beautiful 🙂 Well, I never liked green growing up, but it was always my Nana’s favorite color… Somehow over the years it has become my favorite color too! I love the color of inchworms, fiddleheads, watermelons, avacados, green tea and the first shoots of crocuses poking up from the soggy spring earth… to name just a few!

  5. Green tea ice cream, green tea latte, guacamole with not tomato, pesto sauce, most of the green veggies… hummm, can you tell I love to eat? lol

I like your sweater a lot! It looks great on you 😀

  6. I am in love with the various shades of green from the hillsides and moors of Ireland. Mesmerizing! Named firstborn Kelly. I’d love that skein of yarn to knit as a reminder of Ireland and your wonderful give away!

  7. My favourite green thing is the first blades of green grass that poke up in the Spring time. Its -40 Celcius where I live today – can you tell I’m ready for winter to be over?

  8. the perfect cup of green tea, grass in the summer, green veggies in the garden, this amazing green nail polish i have thats way to bright hehe 🙂

I loved your sweater, so bright and happy! Im too intimidated to start one of my own, but maybe someday! 🙂

  9. Green is my favorite color, so pretty much anything green I see I’m attracted to.

Excellent job on the sweater, Sonia!

  10. Kermit the Frog of course! 🙂

My other favorite green things: Shamrocks, Starbucks Soy Green Tea Lattes (yummy!), green m&ms, and a dark green shawl that my sister knit for me — its so warm and yummy!

I absolutely love the sweater! Awesome job!!!

  11. I love when the grass gets green again after winter, and turns lush and inviting for bare toes to walk on.

  12. Green, green, green! I adore green! My favourite things that are green are leaves. Looking out my window and seeing the different shades of green leaves in my garden makes me so happy!

  13. Ooh, I am in love with moss! It was one of the reasons we bought our current house, the back courtyard is full of moss! The home inspector said it’s a slipping hazard, must remove it! NO WAY!! Back away from my moss!!

  14. Green was Nana’s favorite color and I was never very big on it either. But, over the years it seems to be creeping in to be one of my favorites. I love your sweater and the yarn that it was made with. Favorite green stuff: grass- to see it and smell it (especially as it is being mowed), basil, mint, cilantro, parsley, oregano, rosemary, I guess herbs in general- appearance, smell and taste, avacado/guacamole. Oh, and let’s not forget frozen daiquiris, margaritas, mojitos….It seems like I’ve been knitting with a whole lot of green yarn lately. Sadie just got a beautiful green sweater as a gift from Ireland. She looks so beautiful in it and loves it so much that she slept in it! Green says nature to me and nature is life, healing, beauty, peace. I’d love to be the winner. Hmm. I seem to be rambling. Thank-you for the opportunity.

  15. After a long, dry, dusty, sandy winter in Kuwait – all of nature’s green is high on my list of “likes”. Yearning for grass – even with all the weeds that always threaten to take over, tulip leaves breaking through, moss on rocks in the garden, buds on trees, lush, large green leaves of tropical plants, green leafy vegetables – – – for now will settle for green tea.

  16. My favorite green is the trees that surround the town of Truckee, CA. It is my most favorite place on earth (and home to one of the best yarn stores) and I just love it.

  17. mmm green. At the moment I’m loving my lovely lush green vegetable bed. The most amazingly vibrant basil, a sprawling cucumber vine and lots and lots of green beans!

  18. Wow, your climbing vines looks amazing. I need to take the plunge and knit a sweater for myself.

My favorite green thing is a field of grass I think, sounds lame, but a lot of my family lives in West Virginia and owns quite a bit of land. There is nothing quite like seeing a valley with mist and dew covering beautiful green grass.

I think green is one of my new favorite colors actually, enough so to paint my living room greeny green!

  19. My favorite green thing? Growing up it was my grandparents’ house, my grandmother was born on St. Patricks Day and her love of green was well known in our family. My favorite green thing now is the view out my apartment window as spring comes to Portland.

  20. I love many, many green things – Madelinetosh “Jade” and “Filigree” come to mind immediately. Right now, however, I’d have to say green beans top the list because I love to hear my daughter squeal with delight “GWEEN BEEEANS!” whenever I have them for dinner 🙂 !

  21. I love green things, especially trees. All the varying shades of green and the coolness of the shade under the tree . Growth, new life, spring green. Please, don’t ever make me live in the desert!

  22. Ooo, glad I scrolled down! What a great giveaway – I love green! My favourite green things…they are many but first and foremost I’d say nature’s many greens are my favourite.

  23. My favorite green thing is my pair of Wasabi peas socks done in a Hazelknits colorway that is pretty similar to that of your skein.

  24. hmm..my favorite green thing- after thinking long and hard…I would say it is Gumby! the oldfashioned cartoon

    thks for the giveaway!!

  25. When I think about green I smell fresh cut grass, rosemary rubbed between my fingers, and moss squishing under my feet.

    Pretty sweater, love the color!

  26. There are so many lovely shades of green aren’t there? My favorite greens are Ireland, Kermit the frog, and Lorelai’s eyes – which are mostly blue they have turned a bit to have more green in them – she is frequently staring us down, “See? My eyes? They have green!”

  27. My favourite green scent is the smell of the sun in the trees in the summer. Trees like cedar on the west coast. They look beautiful and smell great as well.

  28. My favorite green things are my favorite hoodie and dreams of Ireland (it must be green, as the songs say). Money, of course, is good too but it is usually a dingy green instead of the wonderful emeralds, kellies, etc. Thanks for showing your sweater. I love to watch your vibrant creations come to life.

  29. Anything green and alive shares first place, be it frog, algae, tree or Punk Rocker Hair. Next would be money to buy yarn with, then Malachite. Wait, Malachite just moved ahead of money.

  30. My favorite green things are the new shoots from my tulips, daffodils and crocuses in the front garden. It has been such a long and snowy winter, and these green sprouts give me hope that warmer weather is just around the corner.

  31. My favorite green thing are the flower buds(tulips maybe) that decided to poke their heads out of the dirt this last weekend when we had a bit of warm weather. Makes me so happy to know that it will soon be spring.

My other favorite green thing is my aloe vera plant that I have not yet killed off(I have the blackest thumb!)

    Adorable sweater by the way:)

  32. Where do I begin?! Green is my favorite color. My sister recently told me I have to stop adding green to my wardrobe. Whoops! Today my favorite green thing will be my silk and wool vest I’m wearing to “casual friday” at work.

  33. I wear something green everyday. It’s my favourite. Green phone, green ipod, green comforter, even green undergarmet *gasp*! 🙂 I have several green favourite things, including (but not limited to): fresh cut grass, the first buds of leaves in the spring, the green sweater my marmie bought me, even my green knitting needles! But my favourite green are the little specks of green in my love’s eyes. I know, cheesy right? But it’s true.
