This Moment

inspired by Soule Mama:

{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

If you’re inspired to do the same, leave a link to your ‘moment’ in the comments for all to find and see.

Around the House:: Spring Edition

As the weather warms and activities shift into more time spent outdoors, I have been taking pictures.  Pictures of what things are really like around my house as we transition from winter to spring.  There are fresh-cut flowers everywhere, a gift from a previous owner who planted hundreds of bulbs around the yard.  On the cooler, rainier days, I have been making granola and baking all sorts of vegan muffins.  Piles of handknits, so frequently grabbed all winter now sit unused.  Windows are open, letting the fresh, slightly chilly air circulate, and certain toddlers are grabbing a jacket and asking to go outside several times a day.  It’s a glorious time of year, isn’t it?!

In the spirit of sharing, I thought it might be time to play another round of Around the House.  Nothing fancy, just capturing a moment.  Would you like to play?  Simply copy the list below, take a stroll through your house one day, and post on your blog.  Please link back here and leave a link to your page in the comments so we can come take a peek! Oh, and grab a button if you like:

Around the House

The last time I took you Around the House was on New Year’s Eve 2009, a notoriously contemplative day for me.  I shared photos from some key spots in my home, and some of you played along and did the same.  I thought it was a great way to share a little bit of how we each live and use our homes.

I avoided making any major resolutions this year, aside from a few knitting-related notions (knit more from stash, try new techniques, etc.).  A couple of other things kept coming up in my mind.  One of them is the idea that we bloggers tend to show our lives (selves, homes, projects) in the most favorable light possible (I blogged about this here). I know I strive to make things look nice before I get out my camera and take shots for a blog post.  But some days, I’d don’t feel like going to the trouble of making things look different or better; I want to share things as they are, messes and all.

I decided one way I could show you another part of the “real” me is to share a photo of my living areas at the same time each day.  I chose 3-4pm, a time I am usually home and in the midst of real life activities.  Then, without prettying things up, I took a photo of the same room at approximately the same time for 5 days.  No photo editing, either!

Things look pretty good to me!  Family gathering together, PB playing and “helping” me fold laundry, even watching a bit of Sesame Street in her diaper, and playing in her new kitchen.  Sure, things are dark (it’s winter, after all), there’s plastic toys and electronic cords peeking out, two-week old birthday balloons floating around, and Cheerios on the floor.  But that’s my life these days!

If you’d like to participate, there are two ways to play along.

1. The Around the House meme.  With the below categories in mind, take a stroll through your house one day taking photos, and post on your blog.

Here are the categories:

  • In the kitchen
  • On the nightstand
  • In your work/craft space
  • Out the window
  • What the pets or children are up to
  • On your feet
  • Knitting or knitwear in action

2. Take a photo of your living area or workspace between 3-4pm on an average day.  Post it to your blog, and leave a comment here so we can come check out your Around the House post.
