Posted on May 26, 2017July 18, 2017 by Sonia Ruyts in creativity, fear & uncertainty, self-care, writing

One of my favorite tools to leverage the discomfort and get me out of the cycle of self-doubt is to do a Fear Dump. This powerful 5-minute exercise will take you from feeling uncertain to feeling more powerful.

Hello there!

Welcome! My name is Sonia and I am an avid knitter, mama of 2, and local yarn shop owner. Join me as I write about running a small business, exploring my creative pursuits, reading, parenting, gardening, and whatever else strikes my fancy.

Recently, I broke a nail while trying to clean up before a friend arrived for a play date. It was a snag that cut deep into the quick and was painful enough to stop me in my tracks. While I was nursing my wound, I had the clarity of mind to ask myself: why are you frantically cleaning the house? This is something I thought I had broken myself of: maintaining the facade that everything is fine. __________ You can read more from my inaugural post on Dear Sabrina via the link in my bio. 😘 . . . . #ontheblog #ontheblognow #ontheblogtoday #friendship_goals #friendship #friendshipgoalsšŸ’• #womensupportwomen #risingtide
Oh hello there! šŸ‘‹ How are you? I’m breaking my social media fast for a few minutes to pop in and let you know that I’ve got a few writerly things in the works. Specifically, I have been blogging again, in TWO places, and it feels really good. šŸ“ First, my personal blog has been briefly dusted off to share an update on the life after closing @stashlocal. šŸ’» Second, I’ve been invited to my friend @jodicelliott’s lovely blog, Dear Sabrina, to be a contributor on topics like friendship, parenting, and more. I’m thrilled to be sharing her space and look forward to our future collaborations. __________ There are new posts up in both places, and the links are in my profile. I’d love for you to hop over and read one or both, and let me know your thoughts! Please leave your comments on the blog posts themselves as I am now backing away from social media very slowly... xoxo
I’m home from a few days with my mastermind group in New Orleans feeling connected, full of grits, and ready to lean into my next phase of life. ___________ There’s nothing like finding the people who get you, support what you do, and are there to help you sort through the pieces when you’re in transition. We need this in different areas of our lives: family, friends, and other supporters. For me, having a group of creative business-minded women to lean on these past two years has been immeasurably helpful as I built and ultimately decided to close my business. ________ The resounding message from my time away is that I need quiet and space to decompress. To help with that, I’m going to be taking a break from social media for the foreseeable future. xoxoā¤ļø #mamaceomastery #neworleans
Retreating. Resting. Laughing. Trusting. Connecting. Nourishing. This are my goals for the next couple of days in New Orleans with @meganflatt and my fellow #mamaceomastery ladies.
And just like that, I looked up and realized I have everything I ever wanted. ā¤ļø
Being a beginner is HARD. As adults we’re pretty comfortable having at least a basic grasp on the world around us, and generally feel pretty capable. But find yourself in the position of learning a new skill (by choice or circumstance) and things are bound to get interesting. Old stories we tell ourselves rear their ugly heads: ā€œI’m not good at that.ā€ ā€œI don’t have the patience for that.ā€, ā€œThat’s a waste of time.ā€ All if these excuses disguise our vulnerability and desire to be enough. • I’m pretty good at knitting by now, but give me any other threadlike materials and I’m a novice. I was excited to tackle this cross-stitch project as part of our #stashenhancers holiday gift exchange. I figured I knew enough to fake my way through it... yeah, I had a couple of false starts and had to cut bait and start sections over more than once. And the back is so messy I glued on a circle of felt to hide it! • This project was a good reminder for me to get comfortable with not being good at something right away. To listen and learn from those who do know, and to show up and keep doing the thing. • In the end I’m pleased with how this pendant by @redgatestitchery turned out, and think the recipient @sweet.purl likes it too. ā¤ļø
